Red Runner Beans

Red runners are known for their growth and supporting pollinators including hummingbirds. 
This varietal is Scarlet Emperor
 
Red Runners are a wonderful plant - it is edible at all stages of growth: the red flowers are delicious and "beany", the new beans pods can be eaten like green beans (though are more fibrous), the larger pink beans can be eaten like fava beans and finally the hardened black and purple bean can be stored and eaten like kidney beans! 
 
Use left over beans to grow new plants as soon as the soil warms up. 
 
These plants are beautiful and energetic climbers. They will just keep climbing!
 
They can be grown as annuals or you can save the roots like Dahlia tubers too!
